Argument Against Animal Experimentation
[ send me this report ]
6 pages in length. Characteristic of any living being is the inherent right to live its existence free from intentional pain and suffering, as well as to exist within the context put forth by nature. This concept has been completely lost on humanity, inasmuch as man has historically utilized animals for whatever purpose he deems necessary without a thought for the animal's needs. The issues that surround animal rights are both broad and complex; not only do they address the primal mistreatment of those from the animal kingdom, but they also appeal to man's inability to recognize the sentience of any creature other than himself. Animal experimentation is a particularly huge component of the animal rights argument, inasmuch as science has taken it upon itself to utilize animals as a means by which to further the human race. Without the slightest bit of concern for the pain and suffering thrust upon laboratory specimens, man continues to poke, prod, burn and mutilate living, feeling animals in the name of science. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Arizona Laws: Protecting Animals
[ send me this report ]
5 pages in length. The pursuit for animal protective legislation has been an ongoing – if not frustrating – quest for virtually every American society; while significant inroads have been made in many national communities where such atrocities as cockfighting, animal abuse/cruelty felony status and pet shop conditions are concerned, there is still a long way to go before animals – including everything from livestock to wild horses to stray dogs and cats – are truly protected by comprehensive laws. Phoenix, Arizona is leading the country in this pursuit, having enacted a number of animal protective statutes to help curb the prevalence of abuse, cruelty and neglect. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Charles Darwin's "The Expression Of The Emotions In Man And Animals"
[ send me this report ]
15 pages in length. First published in 1872, Charles Darwin's irrefutably greatest work -- The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals – brought to light a subsequently unprecedented declaration: Since both man and animal are derived from the same kingdom, there is no question that they also share in the ability – though not identical in nature – to express emotion. This astounding assertion was met with quite an array of reaction at the time, from disbelief to wonderment to disdain. Only after decades upon decades of anecdotal proof have scientists come to agree with Darwin's claim, rendering emotional display a very normal component of the entire animal world. Consciousness In Animals
[ send me this report ]
20 pages in length. When one considers the concept of consciousness, it is with great hesitation that its traits are attributed to those who represent the animal kingdom. However, what mankind has typically done is employ the human form of consciousness when applying it to animals, making it quite difficult for them to meet up to such an adaptation. Indeed, while animals may not possess the prerequisites for human consciousness, which not only include awareness of external events or phenomena, but also of one's own feelings, beliefs, and mental events, they do harbor their own form of consciousness that often transcends mankind's reality-based existence. That humans are able to reason and communicate through spoken language does in no way preclude the rest of the animal kingdom from also inherently possessing a distinct and definite consciousness; just because man believes that he is the only species to maintain a state of consciousness is no proof that it does not exist elsewhere. The writer defends the position of consciousness in animals. Bibliography lists 16 sources.
