Chinese in Indonesia / Scapegoats
[ send me this report ]
A 15 page paper on the recent economic problems that are plaguing Indonesia and causing many of the citizens to attack the Chinese people of that country. While only a small percentage of Indonesia is comprised of Chinese individuals, it is those Chinese who make up the largest percentage of shop-owners and as a result of this the Chinese have been attacked for causing the rapid economic decline of Indonesia. A brief section on the history of the Chinese in Indonesia is included followed by a section describing some of the riots of 1998. The remainder of the paper is essentially devoted to the politics behind the unrest illustrating that the issue of the economic decline that is plaguing Indonesia is not the fault of the handful of Chinese who live and work there. After some false starts, the Nikkei appeared to be recovering but the Asian currency crisis and the fall of the Japanese banking industry curtailed that advance. The market appears to have stabilized, and the nation's economy is healthier as well. The paper recommends that investors still use caution, however. Foreign funds are pouring into Tokyo, but locals have been selling for months. There may be further corrections in the market, but it is seen to be on a path of overall growth. Confucius And Benevolence
[ send me this report ]
8 pages in length. The writer discusses how Confucius recognized the fact that humanity has turned into a selfish, egotistical and myopic entity. No longer are people more concerned with others than they are with themselves. This move away from benevolence has caused considerable harm to man's reputation, as well as to the manner in which people interact. However, there does not appear to be any signs of significant change to this gross lack of social responsibility; therefore, it is safe to assume that mankind will continue down the road of self-centeredness.
