Looking at Bill Clinton through a Motivational Microscope
[ send me this report ]
(6pp) McClelland asserted that people acquired different needs over time as a result of life experiences. He identified three needs that affect motivation of individuals and organizations: "1. Need for Achievement - The desire to do something better or more efficiently to solve problems, or to grasp and solve complex problems. 2. Need for Affiliation - The desire to establish and maintain friendly and warm relations with others. 3. Need for Power - The desire to control others, to influence their behavior, or to be responsible for others." Bill Clinton is used as the case study for these motivational theories. Managing Employees Suffering From Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
[ send me this report ]
A 16 page paper discussing some of the problems that a workplace manager may face when an employee is suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The paper reviews PTSD, how it can affect individuals and the difficulty in dealing with it. Commonly associated with wartime experiences, PTSD also can arise from workplace incidents, natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and traumatic events such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The manager dealing with employees suffering from PTSD can use situational leadership or contingency theory to create a framework within which to manage the PTSD sufferer. Employing either of these theories and operating within them enables the manager to create a win-win scenario in which the individual gains help, support and validation, while the organization gains real value from the employee's contributions. Multiple Personality Disorder (Dissociative Identity Disorder)
[ send me this report ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing Multiple Personality Disorder. Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) or as it is now known Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a psychiatric disorder in which an individual experiences a dissociation with memories and in doing so creates two or more separate personalities. Historically, MPD was recorded as different forms of hysteria and previous to 1973, fewer than 50 cases were documented. Since 1973 however, the year that the popular best seller “Sybil” was published, over 40,000 cases of MPD have been reported in North America alone. Many critics still argue as to whether or not MPD is a “real” disorder or whether or not it has been “constructed” from a social perspective during therapy. Nevertheless, within the last 25 years, MPD/DID has been associated with childhood sexual abuse and traditional therapies have been used to try and recovery memories of a patient’s childhood in an attempt to uncover the initial trauma to the patient which led to the disorder. Once memories have been recovered, therapists then try and reconstruct the patient’s dominant personality. Regardless of the controversy which has surrounded MPD/DID, most researchers still attest that whether or not the disorder has been constructed by the patient or the therapist, the disorder and dissociation is still very real to the patient and must be treated through therapy. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
