Disadvantages of Liposome-Based Anti-Tumor Drug Delivery
[ send me this report ]
A 6 page paper discussing problems associated with using liposome-based molecules as drug delivery vehicles for tumor-inhibiting compounds Recombinatory chemistry has given great hope for highly targeted and specific drugs that will attach to only specific sites on other molecules. The eventual goal is to deliver highly specific drugs to tumors with no side effects other than those directly attributable to the shrinkage and subsequent death of the tumor, but the problems associated with liposome-based delivery systems would seem to indicate that there is another solution waiting to be discovered. Bibliography lists 13 sources.

Filename: TLCMotorDev.rtf

Eccentric and Concentric muscle action in Resistance Training
[ send me this report ]
A 4 page overview of the impacts of resistance training on muscle performance and biochemical composure. The author emphasizes that impact is determined by the specifics of the training. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Enzymes and the Krebs Cycle
[ send me this report ]
A 5 page paper discussing enzymes at their most basic level. Comprised of amino acids, enzymes are the catalysts of myriad biochemical reactions. In keeping with the true nature of catalysts, they accelerate and enable reactions without being materially affected themselves. The second section of the paper presents a diagram of the Krebs or citric acid cycle. Taking place in the mitochondria of the cell, the citric acid cycle is the last in a series of steps that convert 'food' into 'energy.' Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Functional Analysis of a Forehand Ground Stroke in Tennis
[ send me this report ]
The forehand ground stroke in tennis requires the coordination of more than 130 muscles in the legs, back, shoulder and arm for the approach, the back swing (initiation), the forward swing and the contact, and the deceleration. This 20 page paper provides a functional analysis of the forehand ground stroke in tennis by evaluating the connection between skeletal and muscular components in evaluating elements like range of motion, the phases of the swing, and the desired effect (hitting the ball) that come into play in determining the physical motion of the swing. Bibliography lists 20 sources.

Gender Physiology: Issues and Research Relating to Gender Differences in Carbohydrate Oxidation in Mild, Moderate and Intense Exercise
[ send me this report ]
This is a 13 page paper on carbohydrate oxidation differences between genders in mild, moderate and intense exercise. Carbohydrate oxidation is just one of the three processes which can occurred when glucose has been taken in by the muscle. After carbohydrates are consumed and stored as glucose in the muscle, the glucose can either go through the process of oxidation; can be stored in the muscles as glycogen or can be converted to a carbon compound; most commonly lactate and is transported to the liver. During exercise, fat and carbohydrate oxidation provide the two most essential fuels used as energy production in the muscles. It has most recently been found that during all levels of exercise (mild, moderate and intense) that women have a significantly lower respiratory exchange ratio (RER) than men, indicating an increased reliance on fats as fuel and these findings seem to indicate that that women generally oxidize less carbohydrates and more fat then men. In studying the differences in gender and carbohydrate oxidation and exercise however, it is necessary to understand the relationship between carbohydrate and fat oxidation, general gender differences in carbohydrate oxidation, the relationship between rates of glycogen storage and carbohydrate supply and exercise, the effects of different compound (caffeine) ingestion carbohydrate oxidation and the recent assumptions used to determine gender differences in oxidation rates during exercise. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

Genetic Predisposition and Physical Performance: Height as It Relates to Performance in the NBA
[ send me this report ]
An 8 page exploration of whether genetic predisposition affects physical performance. The author utilizes statistics from the NBA to demonstrate that height is largely irrelevant in regard to the relative performance of six specific NBA players. Summaries of field goals and free throws attempted verses those completed and average rebound points per game are discussed for Kevin Garnet (Minnesota Timberwolves), Dirk Nowitz (Dallas Mavericks), Shaquille O'Neil (Miami Heat), Zach Randolph (Portland Trailblazers), Elton Brand (Los Angeles Clippers) and Shawn Marion (Phoenix Suns). These summaries are then presented in tabular and graphic format and conclusions made as to the importance of height as it relates to these players' performance. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
