Women and the California Gold Rush
[ send me this report ]
15 pages in length. a
fascinating account of the little-told stories of the women that
were in California at the time of the gold rush. Contrary to
popular belief, not all of them were saloon girls and
prostitutes; there were some who had legitimate businesses such
as boarding houses and laundries, and others were searching for
gold themselves. All in all, the women have a fascinating tale
to tell as well, and it is all too often forgotten. Bibliography
lists 6 sources.

Women in Non-Traditional Careers
[ send me this report ]
5 pages in length. Women can
earn a lot more money as machinists or auto mechanics than they
would as clerks or child-care workers, and according to one
estimate this amounts to almost a half-million dollars more over
a lifetime. So why aren't more women entering into
non-traditional careers? Vocational educators are striving to
recruit more girls into their trades programs, and the federal
government wants employers to hire more women into their skilled
trades positions as well. This is because women are
approximately forty-five percent of the workforce but fifty-seven
percent of the people in poverty. And they are only two percent
of the skilled trades workers. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
